Collector's guide
Original art vs prints: what is the difference?
Neither format is automatically the better choice. What matters is knowing what has been made, how it is editioned and what suits your space and budget.
Original artwork
An original is the unique physical work made by the artist. Surface, marks and materials are part of that particular object.
Limited and open editions
A limited edition has a declared number of impressions; an open edition does not. Ask who produces the print, what material is used and whether it is signed.
Use the work-type filter
Buy Art Online labels originals and artist prints separately. Use the work-type and budget filters, then verify the exact specification on the artist's own website.
