About
Original art should feel personal.
Buy Art Online is a UK art discovery platform. We introduce independent artists and their original work, then send you to the artist's own website to enquire or buy.
What this is
A small, hand-built directory of independent artists. Each profile is written from what the artist has actually supplied, with selected work presented at a size worth looking at. There is no basket, no checkout and no commission on the work itself.
Why independent artists
Art from an independent artist has a person behind it - a way of working, a set of preoccupations, a reason the work looks the way it does. That is the part a marketplace listing usually strips out, and it is the part we try to keep.
How the curation works
Artists are added one at a time. We look at whether the work is original, whether the artist sells it themselves, and whether there is enough real material - images, a statement, a working website - to introduce them honestly. There is no automated intake and no bulk import.
Why you buy from the artist
The artist knows what is still available, what a piece costs today, how it ships, and what it is like in the room. Sending you to them keeps that conversation direct, and keeps the money with the person who made the work.
Real stories, not listings
Where an artist has given us a biography and a statement, we publish them as written. Where they have not, we leave the section out rather than writing something plausible on their behalf.
How this differs from a marketplace
A marketplace optimises for volume: thousands of listings, ranked and reranked. This site currently holds 23 works by 3 artists, and it is meant to grow slowly. If a style or subject has no work behind it, it does not get a page.
